As the saying goes, “Heroes are cultivated from a young age (英雄出少年).” There are many young heroes in Chinese history.
Jia Yi was a writer and statesman (政治家) of the Western Han Dynasty (206 BC-AD 24). When he was a teenager, he became well-known for his writing skills. When Jia was 21 years old, Emperor Wendi gave him a job as his consultant (顾问), the youngest one at that time. One of his great essays (文章) was Zhian Ce (《治安策》). In the essay, he came up with useful advice on how to build long-term peace. Chairman Mao praised it as the best political essay of the dynasty.
Another young hero is Wang Bo, a poet in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). As a child prodigy (神童), he was able to write poems at the age of 6. A Eulogy to Tengwang Pavilion (《滕王阁序》) is his most famous work. Along with Yang Jiong, Lu Zhaolin and Luo Binwang, he is known as one of the four distinguished poets of the early Tang Dynasty

Besides Jia and Wang, there are many other young heroes in Chinese history. For example, famous warlord (统帅) Xiang Yu won the Battle of Julu at the age of 24. Youth is the “golden time” of life. Young people are energetic (精力充沛的), curious and have good memories. And they often dream big.
However, young people can’t become heroes naturally. It still takes great effort (努力). Youth is a time to explore (探索) and work hard. Today, being a hero doesn’t mean being famous. Ordinary (普通的) people who shine (闪光) and help others in need are also heroes. President Xi Jinping cares about our nation’s youth. He talked about young heroes, including Jia Yi and Wang Bo in a meeting in 2013.
