Ronaldo gets upset
Cristiano Ronaldo has a clash with his coach and club
C罗与曼联的恩怨与纷争
It has been a troublesome (麻烦的) week for soccer superstar Cristiano Ronaldo.
On Oct 19 during the game of his team, Manchester United, against Tottenham, the player left the stadium (体育场) before the game ended. In the game, the 37-year-old Portuguese player was used as a substitute(替补) by United’s coach, Erik ten Hag. But he didn’t get a chance to play, which clearly made him upset.
Ronaldo quickly got many criticisms (批评). Some thought his action was against soccer etiquette (礼仪). Dion Dublin, former Manchester United player, said: “I think he should be getting more minutes ... However, the game’s still going on, your teammates (队友) are still playing,” he said. “It says ‘I’m off’ and ‘I don’t really care about my teammates’.”
Ronaldo’s coach and club were not happy about this, either. They dropped him in the next game against Chelsea and let him train alone away from the team.
For superstars like Ronaldo, it’s always hard to deal with their declining (衰退的) years. So far this season, Ronaldo only played in eight games – six of which he came in as a substitute and scored just once, reported CNN. Now, with this “irresponsible (不负责任的) action”, his place in the United team is in question ahead of the World Cup. Many even feel like this could be the end of the road for the five-time Ballon d’Or (金球奖) winner.
Ronaldo himself is trying to get things back on track. “I’ve always tried to set the example myself for the youngsters ... Unfortunately (遗憾地) that’s not always possible, and sometimes the heat of the moment gets the best of us,” he said later. “Giving in to the pressure is not an option (选项). It never was.”
etiquette on field
As the clash between Cristiano Ronaldo and his team shows, it’s important for team members to have game etiquette. The Global Futbol Training website has listed some rules soccer players should keep.
· Stay positive
A difference between young players and mature (成熟的) competitors is that they know how to control their strong feelings and make good choices.
· Be a good teammate
Not everyone can be the star scorer (得分者). Happily go where you are needed.
· Be respectful
Respect the coaches and other players including those of the other team. No one respects a dirty player or a bully (霸凌者). Do not make ugly personal comments.
· Work hard
This is one of the core (核心的) spirits of the sport. Train hard, get fit and keep in good form – that’s how you can play a game well.
soccer hooligans
Tensions in a soccer stadium not only take place between players and coaches, but also among the fans. Violence (暴力) between soccer fans is common to see. These violent fans are known as soccer hooligans (流氓).
Unfortunately, the UK has a history of soccer hooligans. It dates back to medieval (中世纪的) times. In 1314, King Edward II banned the sport, fearing the hooligans’ fighting may lead to social unrest (动乱). In 1985, a fight between English and Italian soccer fans led to the death of 39 people. Recently, the UK has banned (禁止) more than 1,300 British soccer fans from traveling to Qatar for this year’s World Cup. These fans caused trouble before and are likely to do so again, according to the UK.
