前天上海宣布全市中小学调整为线上教学。
中小学生集体上网课了，对在线教育行业是个利好消息，不知对那些马不停蹄接送孩子在各种兴趣班之间穿梭的父母亲是不是个好消息？
想到一个词：soccer mom 足球妈妈。
Soccer mom 这个词大约出现于1990年代中期，随着1996年美国总统大选在美国媒体走红。那一年，Bill Clinton当选总统，美国很多媒体说他胜出靠的就是soccer mom votes.
怎么回事？Who are these soccer moms?
Merriam-Webster字典对这个新词的权威注释是：
a typically suburban mother who accompanies her children to their soccer games and is considered as part of a significant voting bloc or demographic group.
再说得具体点，soccer mom在美国指的是这样一个群体（主要特征列举如下）：
• White 白人
• Middle-class women (most are housewives) 中产阶级妇女（多为专职主妇）
• In their 20s-40s 年龄介于二十多到四十多岁
• Live in the suburb 住在郊区（住大house）
• mother of school-age children 家有学龄儿童
• politically moderate 不太关心政治
• civic-minded 热心公益/公共事务
• children-centered, and overly ambitious with their children's success 以孩子为中心，望子成龙心切，对子女期望非常高
• their children are enrolled in several activities such as ballet, hockey, skiing, softball, soccer etc. 小孩报名了很多兴趣课程班（芭蕾、冰球、滑雪、垒球、足球等）
• They spend a lot of time transporting their children from one athletic activity or event to another 每天开车接送小孩赶场去上各个培训班
具备以上这些特征的女性在美国被称为 soccer mom.
近几年来，美国还出现了一群被媒体称为 security mom 的女性，指的是那些特别关心社会治安、伊拉克战争、枪支犯罪、恐怖主义等社会问题的年轻母亲。
北美（美国北部和加拿大）一些地方还有一个词 hockey mom 冰球妈妈，跟soccer mom的意思类似，只不过有更浓厚的地方特色吧。
