Thomas Stevens started his tour-the-globe journey by bicycle.
He left San Francisco at 8 o'clock on 22 April 1884, riding his large-wheeled Ordinary, also known as a penny-farthing.
From San Francisco, he cycled to Boston to take a steamer to England.
He finished his tour on Dec 17, 1886, becoming the first person to circle the globe by bicycle.
Upon his return, he wrote a book:
Around the World on a Bicycle.

Haiku: Rain and Fruit
Nothing unloving,
the rain stops - fruits plump and ripe,
gentle and supple.
