Missing Children’s Day
On May 25, 1979, a six-year-old boy (Etan Patz) disappeared on his way from the bus to school in New York City.
The missing case received extensive media coverage as cases of missing children were very rare.
Police search and media attention went on for almost three years, but the boy was not found.

In 1983, US President Ronald Reagan proclaimed May 25 as National Missing Children’s Day.
In 2001, the day was launched as International Missing Children's Day.
