After being established on July 10, 1912, the Takushi Jidosha
KK (タクシー自働車株式会社が), Japan’s very first taxi company started operations on
August 5 with 6 Model T Fords at the company’s headquarters in Tokyo.

But taxi is not a Japanese invention. The concept of taxis
had been around since the 17th century, when horse-drawn carriages first became
available for hire in London in 1605.
