Whether you like cats or not, they were worshipped as
gods in ancient times, for example in Egypt.
They are still worshipped by modern people, in a sense. Many
people proudly self-claim to be slaves to their cats.
In 2002, the International Fund for Animal Welfare created
today as International Cat Day.

the Chinese Peking opera artist better known by his stage name Mei Lanfang,
died at age 66.
