昨天出了一件不小的事——川普可能要重回推特了。
推特新主马斯克提议解封前总统川普被冻结的推特账号，这个倡议得到了51.8%推特用户的支持。
于是，马斯克发推说："The people have spoken. Trump will be reinstated.”
先不评论事件本身，今天主要讲一个新闻英语词汇：
reinstate
Reinstate本来是个法律术语，有两个意思：官复原职；恢复原有权利。
If you reinstate someone, you give them back a job or position which had been taken away from them. (Collins Dictionary)
Reinstate 去掉前缀 re，词根instate就是任命的意思。再次任命，re-instate，就是复职。
昨天美国各大媒体几乎都用了reinstate这个词说这件事，但英国媒体，以Reuters为例，用了不同的词：Trump
snubs Twitter after Musk announces reactivation of ex-president's
account
路透社用了reactivate这个词，“重启”、“激活”。
顺便讲一下路透社这则新闻标题，Trump snubs … 这个动词用得好，snub就是冷落的意思，简单说就是reject, rebuff, give someone the cold shoulder(s).
马斯克要恢复川普的推特账号，川普不屑，继续玩他的 Truth Social. 不过，我不信他会真的拒绝马斯克。骨子里是个商人，讨价还价、等待最佳买入时机、追求利益最大化是本能。
上周，川普正式宣布参选2024美国总统……
看来2024注定是个不太平的年份，到那时再回头看，没准会觉得2022还不错呢。
有了这一“马”一“川”，世界未来注定无法一马平川了。
但有一件好事——按照美国法律，马斯克没有资格参选美国总统。这一点也许让很多人松了一口气没有放弃活下去的信心吧。
