我经常在webinar上听主持人说 We are near the top of the hour. 你听到过这句话吗？
The
top of the hour是一句成语，意思就是整点（the beginning of an
hour）。
我听的webinar大多数长度都在一个小时左右，演讲者一般讲50分钟，剩下十分钟Q&A，回答完听众的问题，主持人这时候就会说
We are near the top of the hour. 意思就是马上一个小时了，马上就到下一个整点时刻了。
The top of the hour就是这样用的，很地道，你应该学会。

你有没有好奇——为什么整点叫the top of the hour呢？
你想一想钟表或手表的表盘就秒懂了：表盘的最上方是12点，分针秒针走到那个位置就是整点了。因为是表盘顶部，所以叫the top.

如果这样的话，表盘底部的半点（几点半，几点三十分）时刻难道叫 the bottom of the hour吗？
对，真的是这样。
08:00是the top of the hour，08:30就是the bottom of the hour.

这个说法一般在美国英语中常用，如果你听广播或看新闻电视时经常会听到：We have more news coming up at the top of the hour. 整点有更多新闻。
