一提到螃蟹，你首先想到了什么？
一般人可能都会想到霸道，对吧？横行霸道。上海的读者可能想到了阳澄湖大闸蟹。国学大师章太炎的夫人有一句名言“不是阳澄湖蟹好，人生何必住苏州？”我赞同章夫人。
霸道用英文怎么表达？有很多说法，今天教你两个高级的词：overbearing, domineering，都是形容词，你自己查字典学会怎么用吧，这不是今天的重点。
今天的重点是：
螃蟹（crab）的形象在中英文里的文化意涵是不同的，英文里提到螃蟹，大家首先想到的不是霸道，而是窝里斗。
为什么？
先给你讲个螃蟹的故事。
In a bucket full of crabs.
One crab tries to escape.
As soon as the other crabs see it, they immediately pull it back into the bucket.
Another crab attempts to crawl out.
Other crabs drag it down.
The same thing repeats again and again until no crab moves.
The result is every crab stays quietly in the basket, and no crab even tries to leave.
这就是螃蟹的故事。
众螃蟹的那种 “If I can’t have it, neither can you.”的心态被称为the crab mentality.
如果你拿到了一只螃蟹，得把它的腿脚绑起来，或者放进有盖子的容器里，否则它肯定跑了。
但如果你拿到了一筐子螃蟹，不用理它们，你什么也不用做，不用绑腿，也不用盖盖子，一只螃蟹也不会跑。
这种现象叫做the
crab-bucket effect. 这个理论也叫做the crab theory.
