It is a traditional Christian festival that commemorates the ritual purification of Mary forty days after the birth of Her son Jesus.
On this day, all the candles to be used in the church in the coming year are brought to church with a blessing mass - so it is also called the Festival Day of the Candles.
People believe today marks the halfway between the shortest day （Winter Solstice冬至)and the spring equinox (春分).
