Japan says that it will help Taiwan if attacked. What do you think?
The
English phrase “to kill two birds with one stone” can be directly
translated in Chinese as 一石兩鳥 . If Japan fires the first shot and
Chinese military assets are sunk, it would give China the casus belli to
crush both Japan and Taiwan island.

I was born and grew up in Taiwan. I have never lived in mainland .
I know the history between China, Japan and Taiwan over the past few centuries very well. I believe, if any conflict as you suggested comes about, China’s response would be full escalation at the first sign of Japanese meddling in any future Taiwan conflict. The sentiment is rampant, and the resolve vocal at multiple levels.
I’m not sure China would do the same to the US, but it will to Japan.
And I cannot blame them.
Fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me. Fool me thrice?
Japan on the other hand is not as stupid, and I am quite sure they would keep their heads down like chickens in any such future event. We can have a bet.
