They had one beacon it's like that "education was the pathway to a better future.". You're the hope and dream for a refugee family.
My one skillset of being smart,  I wasn't smart there anymore. I didn't fit in.
And I was like ... oh my gosh I don't belong here.

I actually filled up my transfer paperwork to leave.
It was so hard.

I was ready to leave. And I  worked at a low income housing project right next door to where I grew up.
I met a little girl. She's 10 years old.
Her school counsellor came to the after-school program looking for her.

And I just like walked up to the playground in the housing project and I found her.
I saw that her two front teeth were broken, and I was devastated.

I still remember that moment was anguish and anger and a desire to fight , so that other kids aren't like that.
So many of the people in our criminal justice system lost the oppotunity to contribute in a meaningful way in our society before they were ever given a chance.

It seems incredibly unjust and  wasted opportunity in our country that people need to get lucky to have access to opportunities.
