如何记忆？
hit the hay
毕竟以前人们并没有现在这样的床垫，以前的床垫里面塞的材料是稻草等物质，所以人们在睡觉之前，会敲打床垫，这样睡觉的时候就能睡得比较舒服。因此后来人们就把hit the hay这句习语引申为了“去睡觉”这样的含义。
所以这个短语引申意思就是：
去睡觉
hit the hay=hit the sack (sack也有床的意思)
=go to bed
=go to sleep

例1：
I spent two hours studying and now it's dark outside! I need to hit the hay!
我花了两个小时学习，现在外面一片漆黑！
我要去睡觉了！
例2：
I'm not tired because I hit the hay early
last night!
我不累，因为我昨晚睡得很早！

It's after 12 o'clock.
I think it's time to hit the hay.
已经过了12点了。我想是时候上床睡觉了。
hit the hay:
"hit the hay” means "to go to sleep". You can tell someone who is tired that he or she should hit the hay or you can hit the hay yourself when you are ready to go to sleep.
“hit the hay”的意思是“去睡觉”。你可以告诉累了的人，他或她应该去睡觉了，或者也可以在你准备睡觉的时候自己去睡觉。
