If you have never been to a boarding school, one of the most difficult things for you to understand is that once you have been to school for one year, you will almost be at school, but you can't go anywhere else. But this actually seems to be the case for most students in boarding schools.

And although it isn't necessarily always the case, typically students who are chosen as prefects have to maintain a certain level of school involvement and academic performance in order to get and maintain the gig.

gig 此处意为（尤指临时的）工作；除此之外还有 现场演出 [非正式]；的含义，例：The two bands join forces for a gig at Madison Square Garden on November 28. 这两支乐队将于11月28日在麦迪逊广场花园联手举行一场演出。
