今天先跟你分享一个很老的段子。
Alexander the Great, Julius Caesar and Napoleon are watching (as ghosts) the parade in Red Square in the 1940s.
“If I had Soviet tanks, I would have been invincible!” says Alexander.
“If I had Soviet airplanes, I would have conquered the whole world!” says Caesar.
“If I had Pravda (the main Soviet newspaper), the world would have never known about Waterloo!” says Napoleon.

在没有真话只有真理报的地方，所有坏事最后都会变成“好事”，所有失败最后都会变成“胜利”。例如二战期间日军和德军在他们国内的宣传，报纸上每天赫然登着胜利、微笑、亲善、夹道欢迎，民众无法不信那就是“真理”。

今天要讲一个口语中不太常用的词，但英文媒体和历史相关书籍上经常出现：
Pyrrhic victory
国内有两种音译，“比鲁斯之捷”、“皮洛士式胜利”，意思是付出巨大代价而取得的胜利，惨胜。
Pyrrhic的读音是 /ˈpɪrɪk/。
下面这句英文解释特别好：
A Pyrrhic victory is a victory that inflicts such a devastating toll on the victor that it is tantamount to defeat. 胜利是胜利了，但胜利者付出的代价太惨重，惨重到这个胜利跟失败没什么区别。
这种胜利就是一个hollow victory吧，历史上的所有pyrrhic victory基本上都是为了面子，因为怕脸疼。
三言两语讲一下这段小历史。
时代背景是公元前281年，中国正是七国混战的战国时代（三年后，楚国都城被秦军攻破，屈原投江。）
Pyrrhic（比鲁斯）是伊庇鲁斯（Epirus)国王。
这一年，希腊城邦小国他林敦与罗马共和国(Roman Republic，凯撒担任终生独裁者）开战，向伊庇鲁斯求助。比鲁斯亲帅两万多名马步兵加20头战象(elephant warrirors）参战。
在一场正面作战中，罗马军团不敌比鲁斯的战象，溃败而逃。比鲁斯也折损了数千士兵，惨胜。
后来英文就把这种杀敌一千自损八百的胜利叫做 Pyrrhic victory.

Pyrrhic victory - a victory that is won by incurring terrible losses. 惨胜、得不偿失的胜利。
