之前我们在《go south》中认识了这个实际意思与直译完全看不出联系的惯用语：go to town，指的是“精心操持，大操大办”，特别是那种大量花钱的大操大办。go这个词简单但也不简单，它在英语中有太多不同的含义和变化的使用方式，今天我们来认识其中一些有意思又容易理解错的表达吧～
go pear-shaped

pear-shaped是个形容词，意思是“梨形的”，比如说a pear-shaped physique指的就是梨状体形。不过go pear-shaped并不是变形成梨形，而是指“（计划）失败，泡汤”。这是一句英式英语口语。
We'd planned to go away for the weekend, but it all went pear-shaped.
我们本打算周末外出度假，但是一切都化为泡影了。
据说这句口语源自以前的英国飞行员，他们在接受训练时必须绕圆圈飞行，但由于难度颇高，因此飞行员往往会飞成梨形，而非正圆形。几经演变，后来英文就以这句话来比喻一件事情“未如原先预期”或“搞砸了”，这么解释真的是很有辨识度了。
与go pear-shaped意思相反的，是英式口语中的go with a bang，指“非常顺利；极为成功”。不过可不要把go with a bang和go out with a bang混淆了，go out with a bang指的是以壮观、伟大或令人兴奋的方式，完成或停止做某事。
He really went out with a bang, scoring a touchdown at the very last second of the game!
比赛的最后真的太精彩了，他在最后一秒触地得分!
go hand in hand

hand in hand确实就是“手牵手”的意思，比如：
I saw them walking hand in hand through town the other day.
那天我看见他们手牵手走过小镇。
go hand in hand比牵手还要更“亲密”一点，意思是“关系密切，相辅相成”。后面常接介词with sth。
Prosperity goes hand in hand with investment.
繁荣与投资密切相关。
go through the motions

go through the motions是句带有贬义色彩的口语，意思是“装装样子；敷衍了事”。
He says he's been investigating my complaint, but I feel he's just going through the motions.
他说他一直在调查我的投诉，可我觉得他只是在敷衍了事。
motion是个C2水平词汇，意思是“动；运动；移动”，比如in slow motion就是“慢动作”的意思。motion还可以指“提议，动议”，比如，the motion was accepted/passed/defeated/rejected，意思就是提议被接受/通过/驳倒/否决了。
make a go of

make a go of sth里的go是个名词，意思是“尝试”，像give it a go、have a go at doing sth都是比较常用的“试一试、尝试一下”的意思。
make a go of sth与上面的两种go不同的是，它常指通过努力工作使某事成功。
She's really making a go of her new antique shop.
她新开的古玩店经营得还真挺不错。
I can't see him ever making a go of accountancy.
我觉得会计这工作他永远也做不好。
