wait
(1) wait for someone 等某人:
don’t wait for me.别等我了。
I waited for you for 2 hours.我等你等了两个小时。
(2) wait for something 等...:
Wait for it. 别急。
(3) wait tables等桌子/服务员; waiter服务员; waitress女服务员; (actor演员; actress女演员);
I’m a waiter at Johnson’s. 我是约翰逊餐厅的服务员。
I wait tables at Johnson’s.我在约翰逊餐厅当服务员。
That’s my ex. Can you wait her table for me please? 那是我前任，你能帮我去服务她们那桌吗？
(4) await 等待:
A bright future awaits you. 光明的前途在等待着你。
(5) keep someone waiting 让某人等着:
Don’t keep me waiting again! 不要再让我等了！
Sorry for keeping you waiting.不好意思让你久等了。
Sorry for having kept you waiting.I got stuck in traffic.不好意思让你久等了，我被堵在路上了。
(6) wait and see 等着看/走着瞧:
let’s wait and see. = We’ll see.等下看/走着瞧
(7) can wait 能等/不着急:
It can wait. Just go.这事不着急，你先走吧。
Can it wait? I’m busy right now. 这事能再等等吗，我现在很忙。
(8) Wait up; wait; wait a second; wait a minute; 等一等/等一下/等等
(9) wait on someone 等某人:
We’re all waiting on you.大家都在等你呢。
(10) wait on something 等...:
I’m starving. We’re still waiting on that pizza. 我已经饿的不行了，我们还在等披萨。
