Purple clay, a special type of clay
originating from Yixing, China, has been revered as a treasure in the making of
tea utensils since the Song Dynasty. As the epitome of purple clay art, the
purple clay teapot is not only an ideal tool for brewing and enjoying tea but
also a perfect fusion of traditional Chinese culture and artistic aesthetics,
embodying the wisdom of craftsmen and the elegance of literati.
紫砂，一种源自中国宜兴的特殊陶土，自宋代以来，便以其独特的质地、色泽和透气性能，成为茶器制作中的瑰宝。紫砂壶，作为紫砂艺术的集大成者，不仅是泡茶品茗的理想器具，更是中国传统文化与艺术审美的完美结合体，承载着匠人的智慧与文人的风雅。

Purple clay is known for its fine texture
and rich iron content, displaying various colors such as purple, red, and
green. Its most distinctive feature lies in its dual-porous structure,
providing excellent breathability and insulation. It can absorb tea flavor
without retaining any odor, and over time, a natural sheen forms on its
surface, enhancing the warmth of its color and the richness of tea fragrance.
This is why "caring for the teapot" is emphasized.
紫砂土质细腻，富含铁质，色泽丰富多变，主要有紫泥、红泥、绿泥三大类，其中以紫色最为典型，故得名“紫砂”。其最大的特点是双重气孔结构，这种结构赋予了紫砂壶良好的透气性和保温性，能够吸收茶汁而不窜味，久用之后，壶身内外会形成一层润泽的包浆，使得壶色更加温润，茶香愈发醇厚，故有“养壶”之说。

The production of purple clay teapots began
in the Song Dynasty, flourished in the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and reached its
pinnacle during the late Ming and early Qing periods. With the participation of
literati and scholars, renowned artists like Shi Da Bin, Chen Mingyuan, Gong
Chun, and Hui Mengchen emerged, integrating calligraphy, painting, seal
carving, and other art forms into the craft of teapot making. Consequently, the
purple clay teapot transformed from a simple utility vessel into a precious item
that blends practicality and artistic beauty, earning the reputation of being
"gentlemen in pots."
紫砂壶的制作始于宋，盛于明清，尤其是明末清初，随着文人雅士的参与，紫砂壶艺达到了前所未有的高度。时大彬、陈鸣远、供春、惠孟臣等名家辈出，他们将书法、绘画、篆刻等艺术形式融入壶艺之中，使紫砂壶从单纯的实用器皿提升为集实用与艺术于一体的珍品，被誉为“壶中君子”。
