So, first of all, I guess everyone finds it pretty annoying when someone else’s late and they make you to wait. It’s the same with the Brits. British people are very strict when it comes to punctuality. In Britain, people make a great effort to arrive on time, so it is considered impolite to be late, even with by a few minutes. Being punctual is a sign of respect. And if you think that being 5 minutes late is not big of a deal. Then that basically means that you are thinking that your time is more important than the time of the other person, and that is really disrespectful. so don't be late, especially for business meetings, for interviews, for formal dinners or for appointments.
每一个人都会觉得迟到等人是一个非常烦的一件事儿。英国人也是这样的，英国人非常非常守时，哪怕晚了几分钟都会被看成没有礼貌。如果你觉得晚了5分钟没什么大不了的，那基本上，别人就会觉得你认为自己的时间比别人的重要，就非常不尊重人。 所以就千万不要迟到，尤其是商务的会议啊，面试啊，正式的请客吃饭啊，或者和人家有约啊。
But we are human and there are things that are beyond our control. If you think that you are about to be late, just let the person know as soon as possible. I am sure that he/she would understand it and appreciate it. 那因为我们都是人嘛，然后有些事情都是我们控制不了的。如果你觉得你要迟到了，告诉对方。我想对方一定会理解并且感谢你告诉他。
可以这样说：
1/ Hey I am running a little late. I will be there at 11.30 (what time). sorry about it.
我会晚一点。我会11点30到，抱歉。
2/ Hey I am sorry, I will be 10 minutes late. I am stuck in the traffic. I will be there asap (As Soon As Possible).
不好意思，我会迟到10分钟。我堵在路上。我尽快赶过来。
场景对话：
Elise: OK, So…Let’s begin…
Lily: Sorry Elise, we are still missing a few people. Shall we wait for them?
Elise: Well I did say we start at 10 o'clock sharp and it’s now 10 past. So…
Michelle: Hi Everyone..I am terribly sorry for being late. I got stuck in the traffic…
Elise: OK. dont worry, just take your seat…So, the main purpose of today’s meeting is to..
Amanda: Please excuse me, I was held up in traffic.

Elise: Guys, it’s important to be punctual.. Can you make sure that you will be on time in the future…?
1/ I am terribly sorry for being late. I got stuck in the traffic.
实在是太对不起我迟到了。我堵在路上了。
2/ Please excuse me, I was held up in traffic.
请见谅我一下。我因为堵车耽误了。
3/ I am sorry for being late. The traffic is terrible.
实在太抱歉我迟到了。路上太堵了。
4/ I am really sorry. The traffic is murder out there.
我真的很抱歉。堵车像谋杀一样（很糟糕）。
让对方知道迟到影响到了他们：
So rather than the usual giving excuses telling them oh I am sorry I was late because of this, because of that, blah blah blah...You are going to apologise for being late first of all, and then you are going to apologise even further by explaining that you understand how worthwhile their time is and how important their time is. What people want to hear is that you are sorry and you understand that this affects them.
所以与其常见的给出理由告诉他们抱歉我晚了因为这个因为那个等等。你要先为迟到道歉，然后你要继续的更深一步解释你明白对方的时间多么宝贵和重要。人们想要听的是你抱歉并且你明白迟到影响到了他们。
1/ Sorry for taking up more of your time.
抱歉，耽误了你的时间。
2/ Sorry to keep you waiting. I know you have a busy schedule.
让你久等不好意思。我知道你有一个很忙的计划。
3/ I am sorry for keeping you waiting so long.
不好意思让你等了这么久。
