昨天闲来无事N刷美剧《摩登家庭》时遇到了这个英语表达：a fun night out，所以便随手在微博上提问大家认不认识这个短语。
结果发现不少人对这个短语并不特别熟悉，认为它的意思是熬夜的人还比较多，所以，今天C姐就来向大家介绍下a night out吧~
a night out正确的意思是指“外出玩乐的夜晚”，是an evening spent at a restaurant, theatre, etc. rather than staying at home，其实就是指出门找乐子、丰富多彩的夜生活，美剧中经常见到的a girls' night out是闺蜜团晚上一起出门玩。
Let's have a night out on Saturday.
我们星期六晚上出去玩吧。
与a night out相反的自然是a night in，也就是“没出门玩的夜晚”，待在家里休息放松的夜晚。a night in是英语口语中的说法，动词词组stay in也表示同样的含义，指“呆在家里，不出门”，多数情况下两个短语可以替换使用。
Let's stay in tonight and watch a movie.
我们今天晚上呆在家里看部电影吧。
英语中还有一个表达叫做a night on the town，指的是“在外玩乐的夜晚，狂欢之夜”，我们看它的英语释义：an evening when you go to various places and enjoy entertainment such as dancing, eating in a restaurant, or drinking in a bar，这可是比a night out玩的还“疯”的夜晚啊~

Let's go for/have a night on the town to celebrate.
让我们狂欢一夜以示庆祝吧。
We were out for a night on the town to celebrate Dee's graduation.
为了庆祝迪伊毕业，我们晚上外出狂欢了一夜。
需要注意的是，例句中，a night on the town前面搭配go for/have这是英式英语中的用法，而搭配out for则是美式英语中的用法。
另外，我发现a night on the town的翻译经常出错啊，都把它理解成去城里玩的意思了...
玩够了就可以call it a night了，意思是“今晚到此为止”，停止你这个晚上在做的事情，有时说这句话的时候暗指我要去睡觉了。

离开了派对后，我只想回家睡觉，玛莎却邀请大家来家里喝咖啡。
After two encores, the band finally called it a night and left the stage.
