翻译思路：
afford主要有三层含义：
🚩第一层意思是 “买得起、负担得起”，柯林斯英语解释为If you cannot afford something, you do not have
enough money to pay for it.它后面可以直接跟名词或者不定式。请看例句：
My parents can't
evenafford a new refrigerator.我父母甚至买不起一台新冰箱。
The arts should be
available to morepeople at prices they can afford.艺术品应该以人们能够承受的价格面向更多的人出售。
We
couldn'tafford to buy a new rug.我们买不起新的小地毯。
🚩第二层意思是“经受得住，承受得起”，后面可以跟不定式或者直接跟名词。如：
We
can'tafford to wait.我们等不起。
🚩最后，它还有“提供、给予”等含义，这种用法比较正式。如：
This affords us
the opportunity to ask questions about how the systems might change.这给我们提供了就系统可能如何改变进行提问的机会。
