A common phenomenon which occurs these days is that public figures are better known for their unattainable and lavish lifestyles than for their accomplishments. This is believed to have a pernicious influence on adolescents. I completely agree that the perpetuation and dominance of such values can provide unhealthy examples for teenagers’ actions and behaviors.

First, celebrities and TV personalities becoming celebrated for their fortune and charm rather than achievements can corrupt the minds of young people by undermining the importance of hard work and perseverance. Celebrities’ achievements are often a result of unrelenting efforts, dedication and commitment to the job as well as the determination to succeed against the odds and weather adversities. When such messages are underrated or downplayed by the society, young people will be less likely to persevere in their work or associate success with hard work. Clearly, this would have an adverse impact on their actions and behaviors.

Furthermore, public figures achieving fame for their material possessions or for their extravagant lifestyle is essentially an ostentatious display of wealth and it can adversely impact young people’s attitudes and behaviors because they often idolize celebrities and tend to imitate their luxurious lifestyles. The temptation with which they engage in leading such a glamorous lifestyle can contribute to increased materialism and hedonism as well as expressions of vanity among young people, which are often associated with negative outcomes. For example, research has suggested that the more highly people endorsed materialistic values, the more they experienced unpleasant emotions such as depression and anxiety, the more they suffered increasing consumer debt and bankruptcy, and the less they felt satisfied with their lives.

A concession paragraph is the part of an essay that shows an awareness of opposing ideas. Making concessions is important because they show that you understand both sides of the issue. But you should never make a concession without following it with a refutation. A refutation is where you prove the counter-arguments wrong or, at the very least, explain why you do not agree with it.

However, many people argue that celebrity figures promoting their unattainable lifestyles also serve as a kind of motivation to inspire teenagers to work hard at achieving their goals. What these people may not be aware of is that this kind of motivation is not deeply rooted in the spirit of hard work and honesty but instead it is a kind of unrealistic motivation.

To conclude, it seems to me that celebrities rising to fame for their wealth and glamor should not be espoused because of the negative influence on teenagers’ attitudes towards hard work and money. If these celebrities provided rectification to their influence on this issue, adolescents would suffer a lesser extent of mental damage.
