The Four Great Classical Novels of China
refer to "Romance of the Three Kingdoms," "Water Margin,"
"Journey to the West," and "Dream of the Red Chamber."
"Romance of the Three Kingdoms"
takes us back to the third century, witnessing the clash of wisdom and courage.
In this epic narrative, the brilliant strategies of Zhuge Liang, the loyalty
and bravery of Guan Yu, and the cunning nature of Cao Cao weave together a
magnificent tapestry of heroes emerging and fierce battles raging. It depicts
an era of splendor and tragedy with the three kingdoms vying for power.
"Water Margin" brings us to the
Song Dynasty and introduces us to 108 distinctive heroes. It is a legendary
tale of justice, friendship, and resistance, telling the story of a group of
persecuted heroes who gather at Liangshan to confront corruption. Ultimately,
they seek redemption, reconciliation, and a fight against social injustice.
"Water Margin" is not only an ode to individual heroism but also a
profound reflection on societal injustices.
"Journey to the West" follows the
Tang Monk and his three disciples, Sun Wukong, Zhu Bajie, and Sha Wujing, on a
perilous journey to the Western Paradise. With its rich imagination, humorous
plotlines, and profound philosophy, it showcases the timeless spirit of
overcoming challenges and pursuing truth and wisdom. Sun Wukong, the Monkey
King with his seventy-two transformations, has become a unique character in
Chinese culture.
"Dream of the Red Chamber"
immerses us in the daily life of an aristocratic family during the Qing
Dynasty, portraying love, hatred, and family fortunes with exquisite detail.
Known as the pinnacle of Chinese literature, "Dream of the Red Chamber"
provides intricate psychological insights and profound analysis of feudal
society. The tragic love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu is not just
their tale but an all-encompassing revelation of an era's social norms and
human nature.
These four works possess unique artistic
styles and profound philosophical themes. They embody the essence of

Novels of China."
