口语积累
1. I was looking for something to watch on TV but nothing caught my attention. Have anything to recommend?
我在找一些电视剧看，但是没发现什么好看的。有什么推荐吗？
catch one's attention指“抓住某人的注意力”，没有什么能抓在注意力也就是没什么好看的。
我们上次还学过问对方看了什么电影的句子，同样也可以用来描述看剧：
What are you watching?
最近看了什么剧？
What have you been following?
你最近在追什么剧？
2. We binge-watched twelve episodes of Game of Thrones over the weekend.
我们上周末疯狂地追看了12集的《权力的游戏》。
Binge 本意是“狂欢，狂闹”的意思，binge-watch指的就是“一次看好多集”，“看剧狂欢”，这个词由柯林斯词典于2015收录，从此英语中有了“煲剧”一说。binge-eat 和 binge-drink还可以用来表示“暴饮暴食” 。
➤例句：
Oh man, everyone was binge-drinking at the party last night!
天哪，昨晚每个人在派对上都在狂喝豪饮。
Is binge-eating a part of your routine?
你日常生活中会大吃大喝吗？
3. Do you watch broadcast TV or do you stream things?
你是在电视上看还是在线观看？
传统的电视叫做broadcast TV，在线观看除了watch online，还可以用stream一个词表达。它原本指的是“串流”，意思是“在线看/听而无需下载”。还可以说use streaming service（用流媒体服务），也就是用视频网站（来看剧）的意思。国外最知名的流媒体服务商就是Netflix了。
➤例句：
There's a great show to stream on Netflix.
网飞现在有个特别好看的剧。
4. I liked it at the beginning, but I felt like it went downhill in later seasons. I gave up on it.
一开始我还挺喜欢的，但后面几季感觉拉胯了，我弃剧了。
go downhill相当于get worse，指“变差”。give up on sth指“对某事放弃”。如果你不喜欢一个剧，说到它具体哪些地方不好，可以试试这些说法：

The storylines just made no sense, and there was a lot of padding.
故事线太无厘头了，好多垃圾情节。
It got too melodramatic.
太夸张了。
Some storylines didn't go anywhere.
一些故事线没交代清楚。
形容你被一个剧吸引，可以用这些说法：

I was deeply invested.
我看得很投入。
It kept me hooked!
让我很着迷！
5. Anya Taylor-Joy gave quite a performance. You should have watched it.
安雅·泰勒-乔伊演得真不错。你应该看看的。
quite a可以表示“相当”，比如你还可以说：
He's quite a serious person.
他是一个相当严肃的人。
形容演员演技好，还可以这么说：
Tom Hanks totally blended in and became the character.
汤姆汉克斯完全融入成为了角色。
The cast is beyond amazing, she did an outstanding job.
演员实在太棒了，她演得太棒了。

Many years ago (in the U.S.) soap operas were the first programs to be paid for by soap-making companies. Companies that made soap detergents and other cleaning products originally broadcast their commercials during these shows. And who was mainly watching these daytime shows? Housewives.

So these commercials were aimed at women who may have been cleaning their homes while watching the television program. So, that is where the "soap" part of the name "soap opera" comes from.
