场景：小花和小虹是小华和小红的学妹，他们的父辈正是计划生育时代的产物，当他们看到这个消息就连忙分享给孩子们，让他们了解中国上个世纪80年代的历史。
Xiaohua：Xiaohong, I feel fed up with the so-called “social adjustment” policy.
小花：小虹，我受够了这所谓的“社会调剂”政策。
Xiaohong：It's obviously wrong and very inhumane.
小虹：这很明显是错误的，是非人道的。
Xiaohua：I thought the word “adjustment” was only designed for entrance exams for college or grad school. I was too simple, sometimes naive.
小花：我以前还认为“调剂”这个词是用在考大学和考研究生的时候用的。我太单纯了，有时也天真。
Xiaohong：You see, the boy's parents filed a petition for police in the county of Quanzhou to investigate their son's whereabouts after he was taken more than 22 years ago, under a one-child policy prevailing at the time.
小虹：你看，该男孩的父母向全州县警方提交了一份请愿书，要求警方调查他们的儿子22年前被抱走后的去向，当时正值独生子女政策盛行时期。
Xiaohua：My father was born during the only one-child rule. He told me the history of that period that authorities enforced family planning measures, including fines, to punish illegal births. And what's worse, people would lose their jobs if they had more than one child and were unable to pay the fine.
小花：我父亲就是独生子女政策下的产物。他告诉我那个时期的历史，当局实施计划生育措施，包括罚款，以惩罚非法生育。更糟糕的是，如果人们有不止一个孩子，而且无力支付罚款，他们就会失去工作。
Xiaohong: But the legacy of the one-child rule is still painfully felt by many parents who suffered for having multiple children. For some, the pain is still too much to bear.
小虹：但是，独生子女政策的后遗症仍然让许多因生了多个孩子而痛苦的父母感到痛苦。对一些人来说，痛苦仍然难以承受。

The social adjustment policy was harmful, according to people's understanding today. You just can't imagine your child was taken away by strangers and it's claimed that it was not human trafficking but a social adjustment rule, which provoked a torrent of criticism online.
按照今天人们的理解，社会调剂政策是有害的。你简直无法想象自己的孩子被陌生人带走，而且据称这不是贩卖人口，而是社会调剂，这在网上引发了一阵批评。
I feel totally angry about the case even though it comes amid a crackdown on abduction and trafficking of women after public uproar about incidents of women chained or caged by men who bought them.
我对这个案件感到非常愤怒，尽管这是在打击拐卖妇女的行动中发生的，此前公众对购买妇女的男子把她锁起来或关起来的事件感到愤怒。
