why bother
这是一个我们在生活经常使用的习语。它的英文解释是：
used to say that something is not worth the trouble
用来表示某事不值得麻烦
bother本义表示“麻烦、费心”，而“Why bother?” 其实就是表示“何必去找着个麻烦呢？”、“何苦自寻烦恼？”。暗指你这么做是会惹麻烦的，不值当去做的，我劝你还是别做了。也可以表达成

比方说，
I was going to send Joey his birthday present, but why bother? I’ll
see him this weekend and I can give it to him then.
我本来打算把礼物寄给乔伊，不过何必呢？我这周末去看他，到时候可以直接给他。
美剧中也非常常见这个说法，比如《永不满足（Insatiable）》第一季第4集中就有这样的对话：
- Have you told him how you feel?
你跟他说过你的感受吗
-Why bother? You're the only one who listens to me.
