silver lining

silver lining 来自于一个古老的表达：every cloud has a silver lining，黑暗中总有一线光明，或者更风雅一些的翻译：守得云开见月明。
所以英语中将 silver lining 的意思定义为 an advantage that comes from a difficult or unpleasant situation，失望或不幸中的一线希望，或一点慰藉。Silver lining 自19世纪中期以来就有了这个引申的意义。
line 作为动词时，有“（用…）做衬里”、“（在某物的内部）形成一层”、“沿…形成行（或列、排）”这三个意思。
而 lining 作为名词，而不是line的现在分词时，意思是“衬层、内衬、衬里”，或“（身体器官内壁的）膜”。the stomach lining 就是我们的胃黏膜。

The injury had a silver lining: it enabled Blake to spend his father's last weeks with him.

silver jubilee

Jubilee often refers to a special anniversary, but may also be defined as “the celebration of the day on which an important event happened many years ago.” Jubilee 通常指一个特别的纪念日，但也可以被定义为“纪念大庆”。
golden jubilee 是 50周年纪念日；
diamond jubilee 是 60周年纪念日；
platinum jubilee 是 70周年纪念日（platinum 是白金）。
而 silver jubilee 是 25周年纪念日。

If you are silver-tongued, you are good at persuading people to do things.
