第一次从单词书上看到niche，指的是“壁龛”。
想着这词我肯定不怎么用得到。以至于看到niche market时纳闷，这什么呀，卖壁龛的市场？
查了niche的释义才明白。先看niche——
【释义】n, （商务语境中）（产品的）商机；市场定位； (有特定的要求、顾客群和产品的) 专营市场
牛津：( business 商) an opportunity to sell a particular product to a particular group of people
柯林斯：A niche in the market is a specific area of marketing which has its own particular requirements, customers, and products.
【例句】
a niche market 有利可图的市场
They spotted a niche in the market, with no serious competition. 他们看到市场上一个竞争不激烈的商机。
【释义2】adj, 专营市场的
柯林斯：Niche marketing is the practice of dividing the market into specialized areas for which particular products are made. A niche market is one of these specialized areas.

回到标题的niche market——
Niche是相对于mass（大众）而言的，与niche market相对的就是mass market（大众市场）。Niche market针对的是被忽略或细分的数量较小的客户群，这部分市场虽然规模不大，但由于传统营销无法满足此类需求，因此蕴含丰富的市场机遇。
因此，niche market指“小众市场”，也被称为“缝隙市场、利基市场”。
