气味。
🚩smell是最常见的一个词，可以指“各种香的臭的气味，也可以是各种混合的气味，主要含有的是指事物本身原有气味”，柯林斯解释为The smell of something is a quality it has which you become aware of when you breathe in through your nose.。
如：
the smell of freshly baked bread 新鲜出炉的面包的香味
horrible smells 难闻的气味
🚩odour指“特有的气味，它暗含的意思是气味较重，多指科学实验方面的气味”，用法比较正式。柯林斯解释为An odour is a particular and distinctive smell.。牛津词典认为odour“可以是香的，也可以臭的”解释为(pleasant or unpleasant) smell。不过朗文词典则认为odour更偏向“臭味”，解释为a smell, especially an unpleasant one。
如：
The whole herb has a characteristic taste and odour...整株药草有种独特的味道和气味。
The taste is only slightly bitter, and there is little odour.它尝起来只是稍微有点苦，并且没有什么特别的气味。
🚩aroma更多的是指“事物等的香味，芳香”，柯林斯解释为An aroma is a strong, pleasant smell.。

🚩scent是指“某物散发出的特有气味并继而为嗅觉器官感知到的是在的气味或气息，尤其指香味，芬芳”，柯林斯解释为The scent of something is the pleasant smell that it has.。

Flowers are chosen for their scent as well as their look.选花不仅要观其形还要闻其香。
🚩fragrance是指“香味，芳香”，柯林斯解释为A fragrance is a pleasant or sweet smell.。
如：
a shrubby plant with a strong characteristic fragrance散发出一种浓郁的独特香味的灌木
the fragrance of his cologne他身上古龙香水的味道
🚩stench是“臭味，恶臭”，柯林斯解释为A stench is a strong and very unpleasant smell.。
如：
The stench of burning rubber was overpowering.烧焦的橡胶臭气熏天。
