01 What do you mean?
表示不明白对方说的话，很通用的句子。
A: I think it's a bad idea.
我觉得这是个馊主意。

哪个主意？

为什么，什么意思？
A: I mean we'll get wet and catch a cold!

02 What are you trying to say?
表示自己不确定/不明白对方具体要表达什么，说这话的意图是什么。
A: I think it's a bad idea.
我觉得这是个馊主意。
B: Which idea?
哪个主意？
A: Running in the rain. We'll get wet and catch a cold!
下雨了还出去跑步。我们会淋湿，然后感冒！
B: Okay, what are you trying to say?
所以呢，你想说什么？

03 What are you getting at?
用于询问对方言外之意，是不是在暗示什么。be getting at sth. 表示含蓄或拐弯抹角地说，暗示某事。
A: Sometimes we need to be realistic about our expectations.
有时候我们的期望要现实一点。realistic /rɪəˈlɪstɪk/ 形容词，“考虑实际条件的”。
B: What are you getting at? Do you really think I can't do this?
你想说什么？你觉得这事我做不成是吗？
04 What's your point?
在听了一大段话或者无关的信息之后，询问对方想表达什么，要点或重点是什么。
You've shared a lot of project details, which is great, but what's your point? How does this affect the deadline?
你分享了很多项目细节，这很好，但你的重点是什么？这对截止日期有什么影响？
！ 注意上边的句子，除了what do you mean比较通用之外，其他的多少有点直接或不太客气，朋友熟人之间日常用可以，但如果对话对象是老师、老板或者长辈等，需要用客气一点说法，像下边这种：
I'm not sure I fully understand; could you explain?
我不太明白，您能解释一下吗？
I'm sorry, I didn't quite follow. Could you please explain that a bit more?
抱歉，我不太明白。您能再解释一下吗？follow在这里表示to understand something as it is being said or done，听懂看懂，能理解。
