·1. black and white·
字面意思是“黑白的”，a black and white photo/movie，它也是一个习语，表示considering things in a way that is too simple and as if things are either completely good or completely bad，把事物都分成了两个极端，不是黑的就是白的，不是好的就是坏的，不存在其他中间状态。
可以形容某件事确实很简单，是非分明，没有什么复杂的情况，也可以形容人的思维太简单，观点很绝对，无法全面看待事情。
常用搭配：
see sth in/as black and white
think of sth as black and white
例：She sees everything in black and white—you're either her friend or her enemy.
她看待事情总是非黑即白，只要不是朋友那就是敌人。
例：It's easy to think of things as just black and white, but the world's a lot more complicated than that.
把事情想成非黑即白很容易，但世界远比这复杂得多。
black and white也可以表示in writing or in print，写下来的，印出来的，黑纸白字清楚写着的，强调书面文字比口头文字更清晰，更可靠。
例：He saw the proof in black and white, so there was no denying it anymore.

例：The instructions were right there in black and white, so they were easy to follow.

·2. (either) A or B·
用“非…即…”表示只有两种可能的时候，可以考虑用(either) A or B的结构，更灵活一点，可以表达比black and white更具体丰富的意思。
例：He only sees things in black and white—you're either a success or a total failure.
他眼里的人只分两种，要么是成功人士，要么就是彻头彻尾的失败者。
例：I can't keep doing this alone. It's your career or your family—you've got to decide what comes first.
我不想总是只有我一个人在照顾家里。事业家庭二选一，你想想哪一个更重要。sb/sth comes first表示to be the most important person or thing to someone，最重要的，第一位的，最优先的。
例：It would be easier if things in life were all one way or the other, but they rarely are.

例：A man is guilty, or he's innocent. The law is black and white.
一个人要么有罪，要么无罪。法律是非黑即白的。
例：She either likes somebody or she hates them; there's no middle ground.
她对人不是喜欢就是讨厌，没有别的态度。middle ground表示a position between two opposite opinions in an argument, or between two descriptions，两种极端的中间状态，或者是两种对立观点的中间观点，折中立场。
A: She asked me if I was lying. I didn't know how to answer that question.
她问我是不是在说谎。我不知道怎么回答。
B: What's difficult about that? You were lying to her, or you weren't. It's a yes or a no, simple as that.
有什么难回答的？你要么是在骗她，要么没有，只要回答是或否，就这么简单。
·3. grey/gray area·
grey /ˌɡreɪ/ 形容词，灰色的，美式英语写作gray，grey area和非黑即白相对，表示used to talk about a situation in which something is not clearly a particular thing, so that people are not sure how to deal with it，灰色地带，形容事物不好定义，分类不明确，没有适用的规则，对错不分明，所以不好处理。
常用搭配：sth is (in) a grey area
例：The sign on the door of the cafe clearly states dogs aren't allowed，but whether you can bring your cat inside is a bit of a gray area.
咖啡馆门上的牌子明确写着禁止带狗进入，但能不能带猫进去不太好说。
例：Whether AI-generated art can be copyrighted is still a major grey area in the creative industry.
人工智能生成的艺术作品能否获得版权，仍然是创意产业中的一大灰色地带。
