·1. face to face·
形容词或副词短语，也可以写成face-to-face (用作形容词时经常加连字符，副词经常不加)，表示in a way that involves people who are close together and looking at each other，两个人见面，近距离接触。
这个短语强调两个人是当面接触和互动，direct and personal，而不是通过打电话、视频聊天等方式。
例：I made a friend online. We've chatted a lot on WeChat, but we've never actually met face to face.
我在网上交了一个朋友。我们经常在微信上聊天，但还没真正见过面。
例：I deal with my clients mostly over the phone, so I don't often meet them face to face.

这个短语强调直接和本人说，敢当面说，不怕起冲突，而不是在别人背后说。常用搭配say sth to sb's face。
例：I'd never say it to her face because I don't want to embarrass her, but she has bad breath.
我不想让她难堪，我不会当面告诉她她有口臭。
例：He called me stingy behind my back. Honestly, I would respect him a lot more if he had said it to my face.

·3. in person·
固定短语，表示go somewhere and do something yourself instead of writing letters, asking someone else to do it etc，本人亲自到场去做，而不是通过写信发邮件或者让别人去做。
常用结构do sth in person， do sth如果是meet, talk, discuss sth之类涉及多个人的事，多个人亲自到场参与，那in person的意思就和face to face差不多。
例：She's coming to the meeting in person.
她会亲自来参加会议。
例：I've got some good news, and I want to tell you in person. When will you be home?
我有个好消息，想当面告诉你。你什么时候回家？
例：We should talk in person. It's easier than trying to explain everything over the phone.
我们应该当面谈，这比什么事都通过电话解释容易得多。
