·1. go to sleep; asleep·
用身体部位做主语时,go to sleep表示to be without feeling for a brief time usually because it has been kept in an awkward position for too long,因为一直保持一个姿势所以压麻了,常用于口语。
对应的形容词是asleep /ə'sliːp/,used to describe a part of the body that has no feeling in it, usually because it has been in the same position for too long。注意asleep不用在名词前。
My legs have gone to sleep. √
My legs have fallen asleep. √
My legs are asleep. √
I have asleep legs. ×
例:I couldn't move right away because my legs were totally asleep.
我不能马上走动,因为我的腿麻了。
例:Hang on, my foot's asleep. I can't stand up yet.
等一下,我的脚麻了。我现在不能站起来。
例:My arm's asleep. I rested my head on it while I was napping.
我手臂麻了。刚刚打盹的时候把头枕在上边了。nap /næp/ 动词,表示to sleep for a short time, especially during the day,白天的时候短暂睡一觉。
例:I hate that feeling when your leg is asleep, and it starts tingling as the blood flows back.
我很不喜欢腿麻了之后血液回流时刺痛的感觉。tingle /'tɪŋɡl/ 动词,(of a part of your body) to feel as if a lot of small sharp points are pushing into it,产生刺痛感。
·2. numb·
numb /nʌm/ (注意b不发音) 形容词,表示a part of your body that is numb is unable to feel anything, for example because you are very cold,身体部位没感觉了,可以是压麻了,也可以是因为冷、打了麻醉等原因,一般是暂时的。
名词形式是numbness /'nʌmnəs/ “麻木的感觉”。
常用搭配:
身体部位 + be/go numb
be numb with + 导致身体变麻的原因
例:I was sitting cross-legged and my leg went numb.
我盘腿坐着,腿坐麻了。cross-legged两个读音:/ˌkrɒs 'leɡd/ /ˌkrɒs 'leɡɪd/
例:My fingers were numb with cold.
我的手指冻麻了。
例:After sitting on the hard bench for an hour, my legs are numb and tingling.
在硬板凳上坐了一个小时后,我的腿又麻又刺痛。
numb还有比喻义,表示not able to feel any emotions or to think clearly, because you are so shocked or frightened, etc.
因为震惊、恐惧等原因,无法正常思考,呆住了愣住了,或者是经历过很伤心的事情,已经情感麻木了。
例:When she first heard the news, she was numb with disbelief.
她第一次听到这个消息时,不可置信地愣住了。
例:He's felt numb ever since his girlfriend left him.
女朋友离开之后他整个人都麻木了。
·3. 刺痛感:pins and needles·
pin /pɪn/ 名词,“大头针,别针”,needle /'niːdl/ 名词,“缝衣针”。
pins and needles固定短语,If you have pins and needles in a part of your body, you feel slight sharp pains in it, usually just after you have moved from being in one position for a long time.
一直保持一个姿势之后压麻了,换姿势后麻麻的感觉慢慢消失时那种针扎一样的刺痛感。
常用搭配:
sb has pins and needles in + 身体部位
例:Don't move yet. I have pins and needles in my leg. It's really uncomfortable.
先别动。我的腿又麻又痛的,很不舒服。
A: Are you okay? Why are you limping?
你还好吗?怎么一瘸一拐的?
B: Oh, I have pins and needles in my foot. I'll be fine in a minute.
哦,我脚麻了现在很痛,等会儿就好了。
