这篇笔记对应“多年前说错的话，做错的事，回忆起来还是会难受”这篇推送，一个很有意思的英文问答帖子。
· sth. goes/gets to one's head指成就之类的东西让人变得自大自负，开始飘了。例句：You did a good job on that project, but don't let it go to your head.
· inside做形容词，表示“只有内部人才知道的”，比如只有比如说只有某一个机构内部才知道的信息，inside information，只有某个圈子里边才知道的故事或者笑话，inside story，inside joke。
· beat yourself up的意思是过度责怪自己，to blame yourself too much for something，自责不已。
· misstep就是mistake，经常指因为对情况判断失误而犯的错误，失策。
· pick on sb.表示欺负、骚扰、嘲笑某人，to harass, bully, or tease someone。例句：If kids are picking on you at school, you need to tell your parents about it.
· cringe做动词，一个意思是表示因为害怕或者厌恶而感到不舒服，退缩，另一个意思是表示为自己做的事或者说的话感到难堪，尴尬不安。比如，听到特别难听的歌会难受，cringe at the song，想到自己干过的傻事而尴尬，cringe when I think how stupid I was.
· pipe up：安静了很久的人突然说话，尤其是说一些奇怪的或者让人吃惊的话。
· acknowledge可以表示“用行动表现出你有注意到某人，理会某人，和某人打招呼”。比如说在路上遇到老同学，say hello or wave to acknowledge an old classmate。
· fall by the wayside，如果用人做主语，意思是做某事失败之后就不再继续了，放弃了，落后于人。Players either perform well and deal with the pressure, or fall by the wayside. 如果用事物做主语，表示某件事因为突发情况或者其他更重要的事情而被搁置，被遗忘，His college applications fell by the wayside after his mom was diagnosed with cancer.
· Hindsight is 20/20. 20/20是一个视力分数，表示正常视力，相当于我们国内说的视力5.0。hindsight的意思是the ability to understand a situation only after it has happened，事后聪明。这句话的意思是事情发生之后，才有了一个完整准确的理解和判断，才知道本来应该怎么做，很像我们说的事后诸葛亮。例句：With 20/20 hindsight we now see where our strategy went wrong.
· play it off表示在发生了尴尬或者伤心等等事情时装作若无其事，假装不在意，to act like something doesn't bother you or that something didn't happen。
