五月第二个星期天是什么节日？母亲节。其实，Mother's Day源于美国，通常来说，五月的第二个星期天是母亲节。这个节日的发起人是费城人安娜·贾维斯，1906年5月9日，她母亲不幸去世。次年母亲忌日，她组织追思母亲活动，并鼓励他人以类似的方式来表达对各自慈母的感激之情。

In 2007, a century behind the American Mother's Day, Li Hanqiu, a member of CPPCC suggested the second day of the fourth lunar month as Mother's Day, which falls on the birthday of Mencius, an ancient Chinese philosopher whose mother is regarded as the epitome of motherly devotion.
100年后的2007年，全国政协委员李汉秋提出设立中国人自己的母亲节（农历四月的第二天，这一天是孟子的生日），并提出孟母可作为中国母亲的形象代表。
Why we chose her as the epitome? That's because she appears in a four-character idiom: meng mu san qian, or Mencius's mother moves three times, referring to the legend that she relocated three times before finding the perfect environment for her son.
为什么孟母是典型的代表呢？因为我们中国有句成语：孟母三迁。这里的三是多的意思，不过孟子的母亲为了孩子读书，的确搬迁了三次。
美国母亲节这天大家会给母亲送上红色的康乃馨，再配点满天星更好看。
Li also suggested replacing red carnations with the gifting of lilies, which in ancient times were planted by mothers to express their grief when their children left home.
李汉秋女士提议将百合花代替红色康乃馨，据说在古时候子女离家远行，母亲要种植百合花来表示悲伤。
It seems that while Li's suggested day is the official date, celebrations are still held on the second Sunday of May.
虽然农历四月第二天是法定中国母亲节，但是大家还是在五月第二个周日庆祝母亲节。
难怪我们中国有句古话“儿行千里母担忧。”，《论语》里也说道“父母在，不远游，游必有方。”
