Conversation
Xiaohua:I like the fresh taste of the ice-lolly. It makes me feel homesick.
Xiaohong:But when you hear the news, it'll remind you of high-school time.
Xiaohua:What’s that about?
Xiaohong:A Gaokao taker from Guangdong province earned 2 million yuan for the past three years.
Xiaohua:That’s it? Don't be cheated by the clickbait, okay?
Xiaohong:No. I'm just reading the news to you. I was not born yesterday.
Xiaohua:Sure enough, you were the once top scorer of your province. What's your opinion about this?
Xiaohong:There must be some reasons why he refused the letters of admission to Peking University. For example, maybe he didn't like the major. I think it's not for money.
Xiaohua:That’s right. He was awarded 2 million yuan. That's a lot.

Mini-talk

We're easily attracted by those clickbait instead of investigative pieces. According to Merrium-Webster, clickbait is something designed to make readers want to click on a hyperlink especially when the link leads to content of dubious value or interest.
The number “2 million” attracted readers' attention and they will feel agitated after reading the piece of news without thinking of the real situation or the reasons behind it. For example, 2 million yuan is not illegal, so why not? Another example, Lao Wang takes Gaokao for 26 times but fails. Is that against the law? So, it's okay for this Gaokao taker to redo the third year of high school for three times in order to be admitted to the major he likes. 2 million is the core of the clickbait.

But if this Gaokao taker takes advantage of Gaokao, that will be another case. It seems like a complicated situation. For example, for many IELTS or TOEFL takers, they decide to take more than once to get the score they want. If the test taker cheats in the test, he/she will be banned for future testing, at least 2 years.
So, do you think a test taker should be banned for retaking the test repeatedly without breaking the existing rules?
