Let's talk about “Why the best hire might not have the perfect resume” in today’s program.
If you are a job-seeker, what do you fear most during the process?
Searching for job opportunities
Preparing your resume/CV
Going for an interview
It's something like online dating. Where is he/she? How do I introduce myself? How do I present myself when we meet one day? Maybe the most stressful part is going for an interview.
Why not begin on yourself?
Why the best hire might not have the perfect resume(为什么最棒的求职者并不拥有完美的简历)
金汤匙(the Silver Spoon)the one who clearly had advantages and was destined for success.
拳击手(the Scrapper)the one who had to fight against tremendous odds to get the same point 必须努力冲破重重难关才能实现同样的目标。
A series of odd jobs may indicate inconsistency, lack of focus, unpredictability, or it may signal a committed struggle against obstacles. At the very least, the Scrapper deserves an interview.
金汤匙:getting into and graduating from an elite university takes a lot of hard work and sacrifice.
But if your whole life has been engineered toward success, how will you handle the tough times?
But what happens when your whole life is destined for failure and you actually succeed?
Many of successful people had experienced early hardships, anywhere from poverty, abandonment, death of a parent while young, to learning disabilities, alcoholism and violence.
(Post Traumatic Growth):even the worst circumstances can result in growth and transformation.
Steve Job.
What's remarkable—among those entrepreneurs who experience post traumatic growth, they now view(=regard) their learning disability as a desired difficulty which provided them an advantage because they became better listeners and paid greater attention to detail. They don't think they are who they are in spite of adversity. They know they are who they are because of adversity.
They embrace(=accept) their trauma and hardships as key elements(=components) of who they've become and know that without those experiences, they might not have developed the muscle and grit(=courage and determination) required to become successful.
1.be destined v. (~ for sth | ~ to do sth) having a future which has been decided or planned at an earlier time, especially by fate
2.odds n. something that makes it seem impossible to do or achieve sth 不利条件;逆境 fight against (the) odds 努力冲破重重困难= adversity n. 逆境
3.elite n. a group of people in a society, etc. who are powerful and have a lot of influence, because they are rich, intelligent, etc.
Scrappers are propelled(=driven) by the belief that the only person you have full control over is yourself.
When things don't turn out well, Scrappers ask, “What can I do differently to create a better result?”
Scrappers have a sense of purpose that prevents them from giving up on themselves.
Scrappers know that humor gets you through the tough times, and laugher helps you change your perspective.
People who overcome adversity don't do it alone. Somewhere along the way, they find people who bring out the best in them and who are invested in their success. Having someone you can count on no matter what is essential to overcoming adversity.
Choose the underestimated contender(scrapper), whose secret weapons are passion and purpose.
Point:
Thank you for giving me a chance for this interview. Before I come here, I ask myself a question, "Why do I come here?” I don't have an elite degree, and I don't have_____ (自行填充), but what I do have is some experience of failure and what I learn from the past.
Reason: 理由
First reason why I choose this job is because I have a secret weapon: passion.
Example: 举例
When I was a child, I used to ....
If you want another reason why I am here, I would like to give you my another secret weapon: purpose.
Example: Three years ago, ....(开始讲述你失败的经历,并从中学会什么,但是还不够,仍然需要在工作岗位得到精进,所以来到这里)
Point:
So, in a nutshell, ....(总结你来面试的目的和未来规划)
