01 bad-mouth sb
非正式语境用，bad-mouth是及物动词，表示to say bad things about someone to other people，说坏话，批评，bad-mouth A to B，和B说A的坏话。
She was bad-mouthing her ex all night.
她整晚都在说她前男友的坏话。
I hate how he always bad-mouths everyone to the boss.

02 behind sb's back
do sth behind sb's back表示在某人不知情的时候做某事，talk about sb/say sth about sb behind sb's back就是在某人不在场的时候议论他，背后说某人的话，一般是坏话。
I caught him talking behind my back about my performance. It really hurt.

03 say bad things about sb
表示“说坏话”最直接最常用的表达，bad可以换成其他单词，比如terrible，rude，nasty (难听的)，vicious (/'vɪʃəs/ 恶毒的) 等等。

他们为什么这样说你的坏话？你又没做错什么。

04 speak ill of sb
固定短语，表示to say unkind things about someone，这个短语比上边其他表达都正式，日常口语相对用得少。
She never speaks ill of anyone, even her enemies. That's why everyone respects her.
她从不说任何人的坏话，哪怕是她的敌人，所以大家都很尊敬她。
Don't speak ill of the dead.
不要说死人的坏话。这一句算是比较传统的格言或者谚语，不要说过世的人的坏话因为他们不在了，没办法为自己辩解，所以说他们坏话不好，不公平，有点像中文的“死者为大”，这种观念现在有点争议。
