·00· 语境：事情将要发生的前一刻
·01· right before ...
表示immediately before ...，在某件事发生前一刻，可以表示“临时做了某事”。
She changed her clothes right before going on stage.
她在上台前临时换了衣服。
The band called to say they couldn't make it right before the show.
乐队在演出前临时打电话说他们来不了了。
The client asked us to reschedule right before the meeting started.
客户在会议开始前临时要求我们重新安排时间。
·02· at the last minute/moment
表示the latest possible time before an important event，字面意思“最后一分钟，最后一刻”，指任务、决定、变更等直到最后关头才做。形容词形式是last-minute。也有last-moment但是不如last-minute常用。
这两个短语多用在这些语境：最后一刻突然发生变化 (临时)，故意拖到最后一刻才做 (拖延)，刚好在最后一刻做完 (差点来不及)，结合例句比较清晰：
临时：
The guest speaker called at the last minute and said he couldn't come. There was no one else to take over, so I had to give the speech myself.
演讲嘉宾临时打电话说他不能来了。没有其他人可以接替，所以我只能自己去演讲。
I like to mentally prepare for whatever I'm going to be doing, so I hate it when people change plans at the last moment.
我喜欢对自己将要做的事有心理准备，所以我讨厌别人临时改计划。
拖延：
He always leaves his homework until the last minute.
他总是把作业拖到最后一刻才做。
差点来不及：
I submitted my application at the last minute! I almost missed the deadline.
我最后一刻提交了申请，差点没赶上截止时间。
·03· at/on short notice
notice作不可数名词可以表示information or a warning about something that is going to happen，事情发生前的通知，提醒。
提前告知雇主自己要辞职，提交辞职申请，英语里叫give notice或者hand in notice，国外很多时候是提前两周give notice。
at/on short notice表示only a short time before something happens，临时通知某事，没有太多准备时间，短时间内就要做，on是美式英语，at是英式英语。
They've scheduled a meeting for this afternoon at short notice. This totally messed up my plans for the day.
他们临时安排今天下午开会。这完全打乱了我今天的计划。
Thank you so much for coming on such short notice.
非常感谢大家临时收到通知能赶来。
She had to leave on a business trip on very short notice.
她临时收到通知要出差。
·04· something came up/has come up
类似于固定表达，表示突然有事发生了，临时有事。一般临时改计划的时候都会说一下原因，something came up就是很常用的理由/借口。
没有说具体出了什么事，听起来比较含糊，日常用没问题，但如果是比较正式重要的场合，比如说一个很重要的面试临时要改时间，或者和客户有约临时要取消等等，光说something came up可能不太够，一般要给个说得过去的理由。
I couldn't make it to the party last night because something came up at work and I had to stay late.
昨晚我没能去参加聚会，因为公司临时有事，我加班到很晚。
I have to go - something has just come up at home and I'm needed there.
我得走了，家里出了点事，我得回去。
