·1. familiar·
/fə'mɪliə(r)/ 形容词，表示easy to recognize because of being seen, met, heard, etc. before，以前见过、去过、听过等所以感到熟悉。常用搭配：look/sound familiar to sb。
例：You look familiar. Did we go to the same high school?
你看起来很面熟，我们是不是一个高中的？
例：Her voice sounds vaguely familiar. It reminds me of an old friend from college.
她的声音听起来有点耳熟，让我想起了一个大学的老朋友。vague /veɪɡ/ 形容词，表示unclear，模糊的，隐隐约约的，vaguely /'veɪɡli/ 副词，表示slightly，隐约地，稍微地。
还有一个短语a familiar face，表示someone you know，熟面孔，认识的人，熟人，和sb looks familiar (脸熟但不是百分百确定是谁) 区分。不过如果在familiar前边加副词，比如a vaguely familiar face，那就还是表示脸熟但不确定是谁。
例：You'll definitely see a few familiar faces from high school at the wedding.
婚礼上你一定会见到一些高中的熟人。
例：I spotted a vaguely familiar face on the subway, and I spent the rest of the ride trying to remember her name.
我在地铁上看到一个有点眼熟的人，接下来坐地铁的时候一直在想她叫什么名字。
·2. ring a bell·
习语，表示to sound familiar to you, as though you have heard it before，听起来耳熟，有印象，让人想起一些事情，唤醒回忆，主要用于口语和非正式语境。
bell /bel/ 名词，“铃，钟，铃声，钟声”，ring a bell字面意思是“敲响一个铃/钟”，这个习语的起源很可能和巴甫洛夫的条件反射实验有关，每次给狗喂食前先响铃，后来狗只要一听见铃声就会联想到食物，开始流口水。
例：Her laugh rings a bell; it sounds just like my aunt's!
她的笑声很耳熟，很像我姑姑的笑声！
例：That address rings a bell. I'm pretty sure we've been there for a party before.
那个地址我有印象。我们肯定去那里参加过派对。
·3. 眼熟耳熟但想不起来：
① I can't remember ...
例：I've definitely met her before, but I can't remember when or where.
我肯定见过她，但不记得时间和地点了。
例：This quote rings a bell, but I can't remember who said it.
这句话很耳熟，但我不记得是谁说的了。quote /kwəʊt/ 名词，a sentence or phrase from a book, speech etc，从书里、演讲等引用的话，名言，语录。
② I can't recall ...
recall /rɪˈkɔːl/ 动词，表示to remember something from the past，回忆起来，回想起来，是一个比较正式的单词。
例：I can't recall the title of the movie, but this scene looks familiar.
我不记得电影的名字了，但这一幕看起来很熟悉。
例：His name rings a bell, but I can't recall his face.
我对他的名字有印象，但是想不起来他长什么样子。
③ I can't place sb/sth.
place作动词可以表示recognize，“认出”，一般用在否定句里，can't place sb/sth表示知道以前见过，但是想不起来在哪里/什么时候见过的，或者想不起来具体是谁/是什么。
例：She looks familiar but I can't place her. Did she use to work here?
她看起来很面熟，但我想不起来她是谁。她以前在这儿上班吗？
例：This scent is so familiar but I can't place it. Maybe it's the face cream I used when I was a kid.
这香味很熟悉，但我想不起来。也许是我小时候用的面霜的味道。scent /sent/ 名词，a pleasant smell，好闻的味道，香味。
