going ballistic

"ballistic"本身是一个与导弹相关的术语，指的是物体在受到推力后，沿着抛物线或曲线路径运动的过程。在导弹发射时，它们会被推动出发射器，并沿着预定的轨迹飞行，这种飞行过程被称为"ballistic trajectory"（弹道飞行）。由于导弹在飞行的过程中速度极快且难以控制，于是人们开始用"going ballistic"形容某人情绪失控或暴怒到了极点，就像导弹在飞行时没有受到控制一样。这个短语的使用在20世纪60年代开始流行，并逐渐成为描述愤怒或失控情绪的常用表达。

going postal：常用来形容邮递员因为工作压力等原因而情绪失控。
going off the rails：变得非常疯狂，失去控制。
going bananas: 指某人变得疯狂、失去理智或表现得异常激动。

When he finally made it to the office, his boss criticized his work, pushing him to the edge. Unable to control his frustration any longer, John went ballistic. He started yelling, throwing things, and even stormed out of the office. It was clear that he had reached his breaking point.
